Correct the dates that decide bonus depreciation

Sage Fixed Assets applies the bonus percentage in bulk. Whether an asset qualifies for that percentage depends on its dates, and those are the fields that are hard to fix.

What Sage already handles

Sage Fixed Assets 2026.0 and later include the tax changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and the 168 Allowance Switch lets you change the bonus percentage on a selected group of assets at once. If your dates are right, that tool does the job and you don't need us.

Where it goes wrong

Bonus eligibility depends on dates. Under the new law 100% bonus applies to qualifying property acquired after January 19, 2025, which makes both the acquisition date and the placed-in-service date matter, so an asset recorded with the wrong placed-in-service or acquisition date gets the wrong percentage however carefully the switch is run. Imports that used invoice dates, CIP projects closed on the wrong date and assets placed in service around year-end are the usual sources. The dates themselves are critical fields that Sage only lets you change asset by asset.

How we fix it

We review the assets near the eligibility dates against the source documents, correct the placed-in-service and acquisition dates in bulk in the books you choose, and then you (or we) run the 168 Allowance Switch on the corrected group. You get a list of every asset whose eligibility changed and the depreciation effect by book, which is what your tax preparer needs.

How the work is delivered

There are two ways to use the Critical Field Updater. Most clients start with a done-for-you project: you send the asset list and the new values, we agree on the effective-date rule for each group of assets, run a validation pass, make the changes, and hand back a before-and-after report by book that your team and your auditors can tie out. Clients who face these changes every quarter can run the same tool themselves through FAHA, our fixed asset platform, which connects to Sage Fixed Assets and keeps an audit trail of every change and who approved it.

Either way, every project starts with a full company backup in Sage Fixed Assets, and nothing is written until the validation report has been reviewed by a person on your side.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need help just to change the bonus percentage?

No. Sage's 168 Allowance Switch changes the percentage on selected assets in bulk. We help when the dates behind the percentage are wrong.

Which assets should we check?

Assets placed in service or acquired close to January 20, 2025, assets that came through an import or AP link, and CIP projects closed around that date are the most common problems.

Will you decide which assets qualify?

Eligibility is a tax determination for you and your tax adviser. We make sure the dates in Sage Fixed Assets match the evidence, so the determination is applied correctly.
