A Digital Twin Was Tested on a Real Building. Here's What Fixed Asset Teams Should Take From It.

One system or process was never going to do this alone — and working that out did not take months. Three of us tested a live model of a real building against automated decision tools that were only allowed to act on evidence they could verify. Here is each of our write-ups, so you can read the one closest to your seat.

What we actually ran

A small group of us — working in AI governance, building systems, and fixed asset consulting — spent about a week connecting a live, constantly-updated model of a real building to a set of automated decision tools, then watched what happened when those tools were only allowed to act on evidence they could actually verify.

No formal meetings, no slide decks. Just a real test, run in the open, aimed at a problem most of us deal with quietly: the systems tracking an asset's physical life and the systems tracking its financial life almost never talk to each other in real time.

Three of us wrote about what we saw. Each piece looks at the same week from a different seat — pick the one closest to yours.

THE SHORT VERSION

One system or process can't do the fixed asset lifecycle alone. Physical truth, governance and the financial record each live somewhere different, and the value is in the handoffs between them.

The encouraging part: finding out where those handoffs fail did not take months. It took a week, in public, on a building nobody had cleaned up first.
